We're thrilled to share the inspiring story of our family's apple orchard farming journey, from our humble beginnings in the 1960s to the success we enjoy today. In this post, we'll take you through the challenges we faced, the innovative changes we embraced, and how our determination led us to a thriving orchard.
Our Story: From Traditional Methods to Modern Techniques
Our family's apple farming roots go back to the 1960s. Like many at the time, we relied on conventional methods passed down through generations. These practices served us well for years, but as times changed, so did the demands of successful farming. We realized that to sustain and grow our orchard, we needed to adopt new techniques that would enhance productivity and ensure the long-term health of our crops.
A Major Transformation: 2021
IThe year 2021 marked a significant turning point for our orchard. After careful consideration, we decided to make a bold move—we uprooted our old apple and cherry plants and merged three small terraced fields into a single, larger field. This was no small feat! We faced the daunting task of leveling the terraced land, but with the help of a JCB and our connection to the new road, we were able to create a cohesive plot.
This new layout allowed us to plant trees in rows and implement a drip irrigation system, setting the stage for higher production. We planted 700 M9 rootstock plants, a modern variety known for its potential to yield high-quality fruit.
Facing Setbacks: The Drought of 2022
Just when we thought we were on the path to success, nature threw us a curveball. The drought of 2022 hit hard, and despite our best efforts, only 200 of the 700 plants survived. It was a devastating blow, but we refused to let this setback defeat us. We knew that with hard work and perseverance, success would eventually follow.
A New Beginning: 2023
In 2023, we planted 500 new M9 rootstock plants, determined to learn from our past challenges and provide the best possible care for our orchard. We meticulously managed irrigation, applied fertilizers, and used pesticides to ensure our plants received the nutrition and protection they needed in their early years.
Reaping the Rewards: Success at Last
Today, we are proud to say that our hard work has paid off. Our orchard now boasts 812 rootstock plants, with over 600 of them bearing fruit. The sight of these thriving trees fills us with immense joy and satisfaction, knowing that our journey from struggle to success was worth every effort.
Conclusion: A Story of Opportunity, Struggle, and Triumph
Our journey in apple orchard farming is a testament to the power of perseverance and innovation. We faced significant challenges, but through dedication and hard work, we transformed our orchard into a thriving success. We hope our story inspires others to embrace change, overcome obstacles, and never give up on their dreams.
